Steve Waugh announced at a press conference today that he would be running for a seat in the Senate at the next federal election.
“It is vital that something is done about these issues now, before it is too late, and we lose access to our major sports.’ Steve explained.
"I have been thinking about becoming more involved in politics for a long while now, however other commitments, and the lack of the right avenue to enter into politics held me back."
"However with the formation of the Sport for Australians Party came the ideal platform for me to stand for a seat in the senate."
Waugh went on to say how much the future of Australia meant to him, and to give some of his views on policy. He adds "Although the SAP's major policy is to keep sport available to all Australians, we also realise that we need to have policies on other issues."
"In the coming weeks and months we will announce our position on other policy and issues."
